Urban Gauge is a web-based tool that can support understanding of inter-scale urban design issues. This creates the possibility of comprehensive evaluation of a real estate development proposal against both local and regional concerns. This means that instead of endless debate about possible effects of a project in the public meeting forum, a well-run meeting can actually evaluate and visualize different possible scenarios- in real time.
The Urban Gauge interface is composed of multiple gauges that capture a broad sense of a public agenda. Each gauge consists of representative indicators from both regional and local perspectives. The regional and local dashboards exhibit the scores along indicators and parameters, and they do so interactively in multimodal visualization with data tables, charts, graphs, and a dynamic three-dimensional map. While dynamically connected with individual urban project simulators, the dashboards update the changes from collective projects.
Urban Gauge utilizes publicly accessible data resources such as national census and municipal databases. Technically, Urban Gauges is a component based system that can be compatible with diverse databases accordingly.
